Dan Hooker seemingly moves on from Dustin Poirier with verbal agreement for title fight eliminator on social media: "It's a done deal"
Dan Hooker looks to be ready to move on from Dustin Poirier, as he recently got involved in a social media exchange with another lightweight fighter. Following that, Hooker gave his nod for a potential matchup with the individual.
The fighter in question is Renato Moicano, who squared off against Benoit Saint Denis at UFC Paris this past Saturday. Moicano destroyed Saint Denis with devastating elbows, showcasing his well-rounded abilities from the opening bell.
Because of Moicano's unrelenting pressure, the referee was forced to intervene and stop the fight before the third round began, declaring the Brazilian the winner. Following his win, the 11th ranked lightweight spoke to Michael Bisping in his post-fight octagon interview and called out Hooker and Paddy Pimblett as his next potential opponents.
Moicano's callout prompted a reaction from Hooker, who took to X and made a sly jab towards the former, writing:
''Wasn’t that your excuse for ducking me in Perth?''
Moicano responded by calling for a bout in Vegas at the end of the year, writing:
''They didn’t offer the fight… but easy problem to solve… title fight eliminator in Vegas December #ufc''
Hooker accepted Moicano's offer and wrote:
''100% they offer me a title shot of beating you it’s a done deal.''
Hooker previously took a dig at the former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier, after Poirier declined the Kiwi's offer for a potential rematch. This transpired after the 35-year-old hinted at a possible trilogy fight with Justin Gaethje.
Hooker didn't compete for a year after breaking his arm in his split decision win against Jalin Turner at UFC 290 last year. The Kiwi made his octagon comeback last month at UFC 305, defeating Mateusz Gamrot by split decision and extending his professional MMA record to 24-12.
Renato Moicano questions Dan Hooker's ranking in the lightweight division
Renato Moicano wasted no time in calling out Dan Hooker following his incredible victory over Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC Paris last weekend.
During his post-fight interview with ESPN MMA, Moicano was amused by Hooker's lightweight ranking and slammed the Kiwi, calling him an ''easy'' fight.
“I don’t know how he’s [Dan Hooker] in the top five, that’s unbelievable. It’s like seeing a turtle in a tree. Have you seen a turtle in a tree? Somebody put him there. That’s the whole thing, you know? He didn’t climb the tree, but he’s on the tree. So if they want to give me an easy pass for the title shot, then Dan Hooker is easy money. Imagine if I take him down, what I’m gonna do to him! He has no ground game.”
