If she were still at the gym, I would have done everything I could to avoid it - Dan Lambert on Amanda Nunes vs. Kayla Harrison
American Top Team (ATT) boss Dan Lambert has said that he'd have never allowed Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison to fight each other if the Brazilian was still at his gym.
Harrison has expressed a desire to take on former ATT teammate Amanda Nunes on a number of occasions. The possibility of a superfight gained momentum after the two-time Olympic gold medallist became a free agent last year. Dan Lambert was recently asked if there will ever be a day when the two dominant forces in women's MMA collide inside the cage.
Speaking to 'The Schmo', the ATT owner stated that he never liked the idea of a superfight between the two fighters. He concedes that the possibility is higher now, considering Nunes is no longer associated with his gym. However, Lambert revealed that he would have done everything in his power to prevent the fight from materializing if the two were still teammates:
"Now that Amanda is not training at our gym, I guess that the possibility would open up a little bit more than it would have if she were still at the gym. I probably would have done everything I could have to avoid it. But I don't know, there are different promotions right at different stages of their career. I don't know how much longer Kayla will be with PFL and how much longer Amanda will be fighting."

Will Kayla Harrison fight Amanda Nunes in the future?
MMA fans are still clamoring for a superfight between Kayla Harrison and Amanda Nunes. The possibility seems highly unlikely in the foreseeable future, now that the judoka is staying put in the PFL.
Kayla Harrison recently signed a new lucrative deal with the PFL. The terms of the contract have not been disclosed, but the Olympian revealed to ESPN MMA that it secures a healthy payday for her and her family:
"In terms of MMA deals, it's historic because it's guaranteed money. I'm thankful that this contract is very much in my favor and secures a very healthy payday for me and my family. This means win, lose or draw, I'm guaranteed a certain amount of money. And that means if PFL is unable to secure certain fights for me, I'm guaranteed a certain amount of money, no matter what. Even if I don't fight."

Unfortunately for UFC fans, the promotion's offer to Harrison was reportedly way below the one that the PFL ultimately matched from Bellator MMA.
While Harrison was still testing free agency, she was also in talks with Bellator MMA, who seemed interested in pursuing her for a potential bout against Cris Cyborg and other top female stars on its roster.
