UFC News: Dana White calls Bjorn Rebney, head of MMA Athletes Association, a 'scumbag'

UFC President Dana White fires shots at MMAAA leader and former Bellator President

UFC President Dana White has finally responded to the formation of the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association (MMAAA) that is headed by former Bellator MMA President and CEO Bjorn Rebney.

MMAAA is also backed by former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, former UFC bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw, Tim Kennedy, and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

White was recently a guest on the UFC’s Unfiltered podcast with Matt Sera and Jim Norton to discuss the formation of the new Association. White ended up calling Rebney a ‘scumbag’ who just wanted to get in the fighters’ pockets.

When asked about the association, this is what Dana White had to say:

"Listen, I don’t know enough about it to really speak on it. The only thing I need to know is the biggest scumbag in the history of combat sports — Bjork — is involved in this thing.”

White further went on to impart some advice for the fighters:

"And if you’re a fighter — listen, there’s three unions out there now all battling against each other. And if you’re a fighter, these guys are all looking to get in your pocket. It’s another business, it’s a business where guys are going to make money.

And if you’re a fighter and this is what you want to do, you’ve got to figure out whose hand you want in your pocket. And I guarantee you, you don’t want Bjork’s hand in your pocket. You know what I mean?"

White has openly stated that he was more than welcoming to talk to fighters regarding any concerns that fighters may have with the current state of the organisation.

Recently, the UFC was sold by Zuffa to the WME-IMG for a price tag of $4 billion, showing fighters what they are truly worth and ramping up the demands for higher pay and pensions for the talent after their careers have come to a close.

The UFC might have quite the battle up ahead of themselves with the newly formed Association, however, as Rebney has armed himself with top lawyers, PR teams and so much more.
