Dana White claims UFC 284 headlined by Islam Makhachev vs. Alex Volkanovski will be among the 5 biggest events in UFC history
Dana White has no qualms about responding strongly to any allegations or criticisms leveled at him. The president of the UFC has been particularly forthright in his responses to critics over the recent scrutiny of the Power Slap League and the lack of promotion for the upcoming fight between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski.
Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski, two of the best fighters in the world currently on the roster, will lock horns in the main event of this weekend's UFC 284. Considering Makhachev's lightweight title and Volkanovski's status as the pound-for-pound best will both be at stake on Saturday, the fight carries a great deal of significance.
Fans of mixed martial arts claim that the fight hasn't gotten nearly as much attention as it deserves, given the magnitude of the stakes involved in the upcoming bout.
Some UFC fans are concerned that Dana White and the UFC are unfairly promoting the Power Slap League. Islam Makhachev has criticized the UFC for not promoting his fight, and White, who appeared to forget the Dagestani's name at the UFC Vegas 68 post-fight press conference has only added fuel to the notion that White is not invested in the upcoming fight.
However, with the event just days away now, Dana White has finally started amping up the promotions, which one fan pointed out under the comments section of his Instagram post:
"Lol [laughing out loud]. Finally posted about it."
Obviously, White returned fire, asserting that Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski will go down as one of the biggest events in UFC history:
"This fight is on track to be one of the top 5 biggest events in the companies history. Leave the BIG BOY sh*t to me. I love when people who know LESS the NOTHING about the business give me advice."

What did Dana White have to say in response to accusations over the lack of promotion of Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski?
Islam Makhachev made some negative remarks about UFC 284's promotional efforts in a recent interview. Dana White recently responded to those comments, claiming that the Dagestani has no knowledge of promoting a fight.
On Saturday, the two best pound-for-pound mixed martial artists in the world, Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski will square off. The event, which will take place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, will feature only the seventh meeting in UFC history between two reigning champions.
Responding to Makhachev's comments on a recent episode of The Jim Rome Show, White stated:
“First of all, he lives in Dagestan. What does he know about what’s going on for the promotion of the fight? He doesn’t know anything. It’s going to be one of the top-five biggest fights of all-time. First of all, the event sold out. Right? You couldn’t get a ticket if you wanted to get a ticket in Perth. And this thing is trending right now to be the biggest pay-per-view event in Australia... It’s probably going to break the record. So to say that the fight hasn’t been [promoted enough], that’s just ridiculous."
