Dana White plans to honor Canelo Alvarez at Noche UFC 306, despite scheduling conflicts: "Definitely part of it"

Dana White recently opened up about Noche UFC 306 and noted that he plans to honor Canelo Alvarez during this Saturday's highly anticipated event. The event is unintentionally going head-to-head with the Mexican star's boxing bout, which takes place the same night at T-Mobile Arena.

The promotion will be celebrating Mexican Independence Day by sharing the history of combat sports in the country, which can't be told without mentioning the Mexican star. The UFC CEO has promised a spectacle of an event for their first and likely only event at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

Home of Fight tweeted a clip from the UFC CEO's conversation with Vegas PBS, where he confirmed that the Mexican boxing star will be honored despite his bout taking place simultaneously. White mentioned that he has been a longtime boxing fan and plans to honor Mexican combat sports legends including Alvarez:

"As a kid growing up, white kid from here, I was a big Julio Cesar Chavez fan...You'll see [whether he will be honored]...We're gonna honor everybody. Everybody who ever came from Mexico and fought for anything will be honored in this show...Canelo [Alvarez] is definitely part of it."

Dana White discusses the challenge of hosting an event at the Sphere

In addition to confirming that Canelo Alvarez will be honored during Noche UFC 306, Dana White also discussed the challenge of hosting an event at the Sphere.

During the aforementioned interview, White noted that the venue is a theater rather than a typical arena and mentioned that it requires more attention to detail to ensure they get the proper camera angles:

"In the lighting rig are the lights that light up the octagon. We have cameras in there, audio, microphones, all that stuff lives inside. That's gone. We had to figure out how do you shoot this [event]? How do you get the light?...Our light lighting is so much more complex than what [U2] do. Everything we do is much more complex than a concert."
