Dana White reacts to US women's basketball team winning eighth Olympic gold in a row at 2024 Paris Olympics

Dana White congratulated the US women's basketball team and Kelsey Plum for winning the eighth consecutive gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Team USA defeated France by 67-66 in the finals.

The French team was leading by 10 points in the second half and came close to finishing the American team's unbeaten run. However, the hosts could not stop the Americans from snatching a narrow win.

UFC CEO White took to Instagram and congratulated the US women's basketball team for the success. He wrote in the Instagram Stories:

"Congrats @kelseyplum10 and the women's @usabasketball team."

The US women's basketball team made its Olympic debut at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and won the silver medal. The USA, like many other countries, boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics due to the Afghan-Soviet war.

The team returned in subsequent years and captured gold at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics. After winning the bronze medal, below the Unified team (Soviet Union) and China, at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the US women's basketball team never looked back. It has won eight consecutive gold medals, starting from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

What does Dana White think about including MMA in the Olympics?

Over the last few decades, MMA has gone from being a marginal sport to one of the fastest-growing forms of combat sports with a global presence. However, it is still not a part of the Olympic games. Dana White, who is largely credited for giving a mainstream appeal to MMA, shared his thoughts on the same during a fan Q&A in June 2022.

He said:

"I think MMA should be an Olympic sport already. It's not my job. It's not what I am looking to do. I'm not looking to push this thing into an Olympic sport. I agree with [whoever proposed that]."

He added:

"Not to mention the fact that one of the big problems the Olympics is having right now is viewership. You want viewers? Put MMA in the Olympics."
