Dana White shares exciting update on Dustin Poirier’s next fight
Dustin Poirier has made it clear that he will only be returning to the UFC one more time. During his last few fights, the former interim lightweight champion has been candid about being at the tail-end of his career. Poirier has admitted that any of his previous few fights could have been his last, but it seems that the Louisiana native is now set on fighting for a final time.
'The Diamond' recently shared several posts on X indicating that something is in the works for his next fight.
Following the ending of UFC Tampa on Dec. 14, the promotion's final card of 2024, UFC CEO Dana White appeared in front of the media. He was asked to share an update on Poirier's next fight, given the lightweight's recent social media activity.
White said:
"We're in the middle of talks for him with something that he wants to do for the end of his career."

Poirier most recently faced off against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, where he suffered a submission defeat. Following the bout, he stated that had he won the lightweight title against Makhachev, he would have almost certainly retired, having accomplished everything he set out to achieve in his career.
Dustin Poirier fires back at Michael Chandler's KO taunt
Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler have traded words several times since their clash at UFC 281, with the dislike between the pair evident for all to see. But Chandler reignited their war of words following UFC Tampa on Dec. 14 as he mocked Poirier for his knockout loss to Michael Johnson.
Johnson defeated 'The Diamond' via KO when they met in 2016, landing a vicious right hook that put Poirier out cold. 'The Menace' appeared on the UFC Tampa preliminary card, where he secured a KO victory with a similar hook.
Following Johnson's recent win, 'Iron' took to X to post a clip of him KO'ing Poirier, writing:
"Best right hook in UFC HISTORY. Never forget this one."
Poirier responded by saying:
"Remember when I beat your a**? You are 2-4 in the UFC Muscle Milk Mike."
Before Poirier continued by reposting a GIF of him dropping Chandler with a right hook, writing:
"Don't forget this one"
