Dana White slap incident: Super Bowl winner exposes media bias in strong statement

Dana White's apology and acceptance of his inexcusable actions do not appear to be enough for those who believe the UFC president should be be dealt further repercussions. Others have chastised the mainstream media for its bias in condemning White for slapping his wife on New Year's Eve.

White made his first public media appearance earlier this week after the unfortunate physical altercation with his wife. He claimed that departing with the guilt of his conduct and realizing that his public image has been tainted is a tremendous consequence in itself. However, two-time Super Bowl champion Torrey Smith thinks otherwise.

Dana White says the only punishment that will come from slapping his wife will be in the public eye.

"This is how I'm labeled now."

Smith lambasted Dana White on Twitter for his conduct, asserting that influential people can avoid punishment while others remain silent:

"Folks don’t really care about domestic violence. They only care when certain people do it. People with power can do whatever and folks are silent. That’s why Dana White has been ignored. It’s lame. If he was an athlete, they would try to get him kicked out of the league."

Smith continued by saying that mainstream media should feel ashamed for their lack of coverage of the incident:

"Honestly, a lot of the media personalities should be embarrassed by their lack of reporting on the incident. Your silence is telling. I’m a huge believer in giving grace but a mistake of this magnitude deserves to be discussed. Y’all gave him a pass."

Torrey Smith concluded his stance by stating that he does not believe people should be publicly shunned or fired for their behavior, but that they should be held accountable for their conduct.

Let me be clear, I don’t believe in throwing away people (all the time) but your actions have consequences. Folks need to be consistent.

I’m not saying ban him for life or anything but a free pass is wild.
But what do I know? I just talk noise on twitter about real life and football.

I’m going to fire these tweets off though. I’ve been doing that since college.

I don’t care what folks think either.

Dana White takes full responsibility for his conduct on New Year's Eve

Dana White had a rocky start to the new year when he was captured on tape twice slapping his wife in response to her first striking him.

White and his wife, Anne, expressed apologies for the event and stated that the UFC president's violent behavior was an isolated incident.

Watch White's response to the incident below:

White told reporters earlier this week that no one should be justifying his actions and that he will bear the disgrace of his conduct for the remainder of his career with the organization. White further guaranteed that this mistake would never be repeated and accepted full responsibility for the situation:

"I guarantee you it’ll never happen again. Nobody should be defending me. There aren’t two sides to the story. There’s only my side... Hopefully everybody has seen what’s going on with me, and hopefully this never happens. But at the end of the day, we’re all human beings. We all make mistakes. All you can do is try to recover from the mistakes that you make in life."
