Danial Williams shares thoughts on Demetrious Johnson vs. Adriano Moraes trilogy fight

Ahead of their huge trilogy fight, Danial Williams has weighed in on the clash between Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes.

The two flyweight rivals both hold a win over each other, producing devastating finishes in their two previous meetings.

After avenging his loss to Moraes in the rematch, Demetrious Johnson will now defend his newly acquired ONE flyweight world championship in the culmination of their trilogy.

With an occasion worthy of such a huge main event, Moraes and Johnson will face each other at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video. The event is set to be the promotion’s debut on U.S. soil.

Ahead of their highly anticipated third meeting, strawweight fan favorite Danial Williams weighed in with what he expects from the trilogy fight. In an interview with ONE Championship, he said:

“I thought DJ was in trouble again in the last fight until he pulled that knockout off. It’s just going to be another exciting fight. It’ll be cool if DJ wins again, just for what he’s done. This guy already won the last fight, I just think he has a wicked fight IQ. I’m inching towards him.”

He added:

“But Moraes is dominant. He’s coming off a loss now, and he hasn’t lost in a long time. We’ll see what that does to him and how he prepares. It’s just going to be who wants it more at the end of the night.”

Danial Williams continues to push forward despite Jeremy Miado defeat

Whilst he may have ended 2022 with a loss, Danial Williams has a lot of positives to take from the last year of his career.

Throughout the last 12 months of his career, ‘Mini T’ has been focused on competing in MMA and attempting to rise through the strawweight division rankings.

With a run of three consecutive wins in 2022 on his way to ONE on Prime Video 3, where he lost to Jeremy Miado, Williams finds himself placed fifth in the strawweight division rankings.

Whilst his loss to Miado may have temporarily halted his progress, Danial Williams is still looking at his current situation positively as he looks to continue competing against high-ranked opponents.

In an interview with ONE Championship, ‘Mini T’ spoke about working his way to the top of the division to earn himself a world title shot:

“That would be a perfect scenario, but another thing is getting the fights to set that up, to stay in the top five, and compete against the best martial artists in the world. Win, lose, or draw, even the last fight, make it the best thing to ever happen to you. It’s only upwards, never think you’re going down from here. Just continued growth.”

While he has had a good year competing in MMA, Williams still has one eye on returning to his striking background to once again compete in Muay Thai or kickboxing under the ONE Championship banner.
