Daniel Cormier argues how disrespecting Jon Jones might benefit Tom Aspinall: "What does respectful get you?"
Daniel Cormier is convinced that being disrespectful is the only way for Tom Aspinall to secure a fight against Jon Jones. Injuries have prevented Jones from fighting in recent days. In fact, he has not fought since winning the heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023.
Upon his return, 'Bones' is expected to face former heavyweight kingpin Stipe Miocic. Aspinall, who currently holds the UFC interim heavyweight title, has campaigned for a fight with Jones to unify the belts, but to no avail.
'DC' believes Aspinall needs to dial up on the trash-talking and hostility to register himself on Jones' radar. During a recent segment on his YouTube channel, Cormier said:
"I thought he completely fumbled the post-fight interview with me in Manchester... He was very respectful in that interview... What does respectful get you? Doesn't really get you all that you want. Now respect is out of the window with this dude and he is just telling it how it is. Here is one thing about Jon Jones,... he doesn't like disrespect. He can't ignore it. He can't ignore when you take shots at him."

Sure enough, things have escalated between Aspinall and Jones in recent days. Earlier this week the pair engaged in an online back-and-forth, prompting the Englishman to call out 'Bones' for his history with PEDs. Cormier sees this as a step in the right direction for Aspinall if he is to lock in a fight against the reigning champion.
What prompted Tom Aspinall to call out Jon Jones on PEDs?
Tom Aspinall recently linked up with Sports Bible to create some content for social media. In one such piece, the 31-year-old called 'Bones' the biggest "fight dodger in the UFC." Suffice it to say the UFC legend did not take kindly to the disrespect.

In a since-deleted comment, Jones clapped back the the interim title holder claiming that Aspinall would never win as many world titles as him. Not one to back down, the Englishman returned fire at 'Bones' bringing up the heavyweight champion's past troubles with PEDs:
"Jon's right, he has won so many more world championships than me... while using PEDs."
