UFC 281 star Dustin Poirier calls Conor McGregor the hardest puncher
Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor have faced each other three times inside the UFC octagon. The Irishman got the better of 'The Diamond' at featherweight in their first fight at UFC 178 via TKO.
McGregor fought Poirier again at UFC 257, seven years later, this time in the lightweight division. While 'The Notorious' had some success initially in the boxing range, landing crisp combinations, Poirier's strategy to invest in leg kicks paid dividends later on.
He chopped down the lead leg frequently, which compromised McGregor's movement. 'The Diamond' won the fight via KO in the second round.
The pair faced each other for their rubber match a few months later at UFC 264. The fight had an anticlimatic end when the Irishman suffered a broken leg that has kept him out of action since.
When asked by the UFC who in his opinion is the hardest puncher he's ever faced, Poirier promptly replied:
"The hardest puncher I've ever faced would probably be Conor McGregor."
