Daniel Cormier says Jon Jones is 'not quite ready' to be actually bury the hatchet

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones have a long-standing rivalry and 'DC' believes the heavyweight champion is not ready to bury the hatchet.

Henry Cejudo made it his personal mission after UFC 285 to make Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier bury the hatchet and become friends. On his YouTube channel, Cejudo stated an example of how he and Demetrious Johnson buried the hatchet and trained together following their rivalry. 'Triple C' finally got to meet Cormier and asked him to bury the hatchet, to which he replied:

"When he was finishing Ciryl, his back was to me and my reaction was the same reaction as Rogan. But because of our history it's like oh DC is mad and then he (Jones) says, dude couldn't even force a smile. That tells you, he's ready but he's not quite ready so we don't need to force him. He's ready, but he's not quite ready yet."

Daniel Cormier went on to talk about how Cejudo and Johnson's example cannot be applied in this situation since he and Jones trash-talked each other's families and had a real blood feud. The pair hated each other with every atom of their being.

Dana White shuts down Daniel Cormier suggesting Belal Muhammad should get the title shot next

Daniel Cormier chose Belal Muhammad over Colby Covington as the next worthy challenger for the title shot against Leon Edwards. There has been a lot of controversy over who should challenge for the welterweight title next following Edward's victory over Kamaru Usman. However, Dana White stuck to his plans of giving Covington the next title shot and shut down Cormier:

"Well, Daniel Cormier doesn't make those decisions. It's nice of him but yeah Belal, we have plans for Belal. Belal is going to fight again soon and then we'll find out who's next in line."

Edwards himself stated after his UFC 286 victory that he does not believe that Covington deserves the title shot next due to his inactivity. 'Chaos' has not fought since March 2022 and suddenly appeared as the backup fighter for Edwards vs. Usman. Belal Muhammad said Covington had the 'Dana White Privelege' which is why he was the backup fighter.

The entire situation dragged in names like Jon Anik, who Covington later sent death threats to for supporting Belal Muhammad. There is no official fight confirmation yet, but currently Covington remains the favorite for the next title shot.
