Daniel Cormier shares one-word reaction implying which MMA fighter can be compared to Michael Jordan following Kamaru Usman podcast incident

In a recent appearance in Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo's Pound 4 Pound podcast, former two-division UFC champ Daniel Cormier almost found himself walking off the show. This happened due to Usman's comments about Cormier's former rival, UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

In a heated but friendly segment of the interview, Usman claimed that Jones is basically the MMA equivalent of basketball GOAT Michael Jordan. This didn't sit well with 'DC', who jokingly said he'd leave the interview if Usman continued with his train of thought.

ESPN MMA posted a video and the quotes on Instagram:

In the comments section, Cormier suggested an MMA fighter who is more fitting to be compared to 'His Airness':

Daniel Cormier named former UFC and ONE flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson. 'Mighty Mouse', as his fans would call him, is constantly in the "MMA's greatest of all time" conversation, alongside the likes of Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, and of course, Jon Jones.

Johnson is the inaugual UFC flyweight champion and has set the record of the most consecutive world title defenses with 11. He holds the most finishes in UFC flyweight history with seven and is widely regarded as one of the most technically sound fighters ever, both defensively and offensively.

Daniel Cormier may have a point in comparing 'DJ' with 'MJ'.

Daniel Cormier cites Jon Jones' controversies outside the octagon as reason why he's not comparable to Michael Jordan

If you listen to Cormier's reason behind disagreeing with Usman, you'd understand full well why he named Demetrious Johnson as a better candidate for the Michael Jordan comparison.

'DC' said:

"[Jon Jones] is a guy who has done so much but because of all the other stuff, it's hard to put him in that rarified air. If Michael Jordan was doing illegal stuff, we don't know about it - I can't judge him. Georges St-Pierre, can't judge him. I know of the other stuff. So it's hard fr me to say this guy is sitting up there."

Jon Jones' legacy as a champion was arguably scarred by the myriad of troubles he's had outside the cage, from testing positive for PEDs and hit-and-run incidents to DUI arrests.

Seeing how squeaky-clean Johnson's life is outside of fighting and the near-zero number of controversies attached to Michael Jordan's name, it makes sense that 'DC' named 'Mighty Mouse' as the Jordan of MMA.
