Daniel Cormier sheds light on bitter rivalry between his friend Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor: "It's very deep"
Daniel Cormier recently weighed in on Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov's intense rivalry and offered his take on whether or not they could ever come to any sort of resolution.
McGregor and Nurmagomedov's rivalry dates back to 2018. At the time, 'The Eagle' was the UFC lightweight champion.
After stating his intention to return to the cage, McGregor immediately turned his attention to Nurmagomedov as he looked to build their eventual bout. After months of trading jibes in interviews and on social media, things came to a head when 'The Notorious' stormed the Barclays Center in New York with his entourage and attacked a UFC bus that Nurmagomedov was sitting on.
McGregor then faced criminal charges for his actions, but his bout with Nurmagomedov was locked in and the pair attempted to settle their beef at UFC 229.
What followed next was one of the most infamous pay-per-views in the promotion's history. After the Russian submitted McGregor in the fourth round, a mass brawl broke out between the two camps, leading to multiple suspensions.
Cormier recently weighed in on the beef between the two MMA stars and offered his take on whether they could ever bury the hatchet. According to 'DC', who was speaking on his YouTube channel, their hared for one another may be too deep rooted to ever have a resolution:
"No. They are not letting it go [their rivalry]. It's deep rooted. They don't like each other. It's deep. It's very deep. I think the closest thing you could get to resolution in that is Conor beating Mike [Chandler] and earning a championship fight against Islam Makhachev."

Conor McGregor vs. Islam Makhachev is a possibility, says Javier Mendez
Islam Makahachev's coach, Javier Mendez, recently opened up about the possibility of Islam Makhachev defending his lightweight title against Conor McGregor.
The general consensus regarding the Irishman's return has been that should he get past Michael Chandler, he would likely be pushed into the title picture by the UFC. However, Mendez believes Conor McGregor could face Makhachev upon his return, should he want to.
Speaking in a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, the award-winning coach stated that 'The Notorious' will decide who he faces next, not the UFC:
''That's a possibility with Islam and Conor, but let's face it, Conor McGregor dictates who he fights. I mean, anybody that thinks otherwise, the UFC doesn't dictate who Conor fights. Conor dictates who he fights. UFC may offer but if Conor says no it's no.''
