Danielle Kelly admits Jessa Khan rematch was a walk in the park: “A pretty easy match for me”
Danielle Kelly's win over longtime rival Jessa Khan was a walk in the park.
More than two years after Khan stunned Kelly with a decision victory under the Who's Number One banner in 2021, the two grappling wizards would run it back at ONE Fight Night 14 for the inaugural ONE atomweight submission grappling world championship.
This time, things would play out much differently with Kelly maintaining control throughout the majority of the match and walking away with a decisive unanimous decision.
Looking back on her history-making performance against Khan, Kelly revealed that the matchup was a relatively easy one with the Cambodian-American offering a very little threat this time around.
During an appearance on the Jordan Teaches Jiu-jitsu podcast, Kelly said:
"I was just confident to use like what I had. Maybe I made one mistake, but I knew she wasn't going to submit me. So there wasn't really anything from her end. I didn't really have any worries in the match, you know. It was a pretty easy match for me. She didn’t threaten me."
Danielle Kelly puts her gold up for grabs against eight-time BJJ champion Mayssa Bastos
Nearly a year removed from her impressive performance against Khan, Danielle Kelly will return to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok for her first defense of the ONE atomweight submission grappling crown.
Hoping to cut her title run short at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video will be Brazilian submission sensation, Mayssa Bastos.
After securing a solid win over Kanae Yamada at ONE Fight Night 20, the nine-time BJJ world champion will look to add another accolade to her loaded resume, which includes first-place finishes at the IBJJF World Championships for the last three years.
