Danielle Kelly predicts "more technical" Demetrious Johnson to beat Adriano Moraes in trilogy
Danielle Kelly has given her prediction for the trilogy fight between Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes.
Scheduled for ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, the two flyweight rivals will meet for the third time after producing two incredible fights inside the circle.
After Moraes became the first man to finish Johnson in their first meeting, 'DJ' got his revenge in the rematch, winning the ONE flyweight world championship in the process.
For the third meeting, Adriano Moraes and Demetrious Johnson will headline ONE Championship’s first-ever event on US soil.
With their trilogy set to be a huge event, it was only a matter of time before fellow competitors started to give their takes on it. In an interview with ONE Championship, submission grappling star Danielle Kelly said:
“If I have a prediction I think it would be, I think 'DJ' has it the third time. I think he has that fire in him. He doesn’t wanna lose like he did the first time. That being said, Adriano has a big size advantage. I noticed that when they last fought. I think 'DJ' will come back more technical for sure.”
After picking up her first submission win inside the circle in her last fight, Kelly is set to return at ONE Fight Night 7, with an eye on potentially competing on ONE’s inaugural event in the US.
Danielle Kelly feels she’s at the forefront of developing women’s combat sports
Danielle Kelly sees herself as one of the female competitors who is pushing the envelope.
For the female side of martial arts to break through, it needed huge stars. The likes of Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg took the sport to new levels with their careers, and Danielle Kelly is hoping to do something similar whilst competing in submission grappling.
Since signing with ONE Championship, Kelly has competed twice in the circle. After her debut against Japanese MMA icon Mei Yamaguchi went to a draw, Kelly secured her first submission win against sambo world champion Mariia Molchanova.
As she looks ahead to the year, Kelly spoke with ONE Championship about how she hopes to help grow the presence of women in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and combat sports:
“You know I’m really thankful for competing for ONE Championship, getting that first call. Being the first women’s jiu-jitsu match for ONE Championship, I think that was a huge statement especially like trying to grow the women’s sports out in the world."
