Danielle Kelly says Mayssa Bastos’ berimbolo an ever-present threat: “I have to watch out for her style”

Danielle Kelly knows exactly what she'll have to watch out for when he meets nine-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Mayssa Bastos this Friday night.

Emanating from the legendary Lumpinee Stadium on Aug. 2, Kelly will put her ONE atomweight submission grappling world championship on the line against Bastos, one of the most accomplished female grapplers in the sport today.

Breaking down her upcoming clash with Bastos during an appearance on the Jordan Teaches Jiujitsu podcast, Kelly revealed one thing she'll have to be wary of against the Brazilian grappling wizard. She said:

"So, with Mayssa, I know what she’s good at and she’s gonna use exactly that. She wants to pull guard, she wants to go to Berimbolo to Choi Bar".
"She wants to go under your legs, not go for a leg lock, but she wants to come up and take your back—everyone knows that. But she still does it to a lot of girls. And this is why I have to watch out for her style and what she brings to me"

For those unfamiliar, the Berimbolo is one of the most popular back-takes in the sport of BJJ. Below, you can see a clip of Mayssa Bastos breaking down the slick maneuver:

Mayssa Bastos seeks history-making performance against Danielle Kelly

ONE Fight Night 24 will be Mayssa Bastos' second appearance inside the Circle, her first coming five months ago when she scored an impressive unanimous decision victory over Kanae Yamada on International Women's Day.

In her career, Bastos has amassed an impressive 115-win record, making her one of the most accomplished grapplers that Danielle Kelly has ever faced.

Bastos has also topped the podium at some of the world's biggest BJJ tournaments, including the IBJJF European, Pans, and World Championships.

If she can score a win over Danielle Kelly inside the Mecca of Muay Thai, she'll become just the second woman to hold the ONE atomweight submission grappling world title and establish herself as perhaps the greatest female grappler on the planet.

ONE Championship fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE Fight Night 24 live and for free via Amazon Prime Video in U.S. primetime on Friday, Aug. 2.
