Danny Kingad surprised Demetrious Johnson is still getting better at this stage in career
ONE flyweight contender Danny Kingad is one of the few men in the world who can say they’ve shared the circle with Demetrious Johnson.
Back in 2019, Johnson defeated Kingad to win the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix and earn himself a shot at the champion Adriano Moraes, setting up a rivalry between the two that will conclude at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5.
Now holding the flyweight world championship, ‘Mighty Mouse’ is considered to be one of the greatest of all time in the sport of MMA. He is by far the most dominant flyweight fighter to ever step foot inside a cage.
One of the most impressive things about Johnson’s legendary career is his longevity. Having competed in the WEC since 2010, he is still performing at the very highest level of the sport and showing improvements when he steps inside the circle at the age of 36.
In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Danny Kingad spoke about what impresses him most about his former foe:
“Of course, I’m surprised that he’s still improving. And I watched and read his interviews, and all he does is train. That’s his job, nothing else. He’s always in the gym, that's why he keeps getting stronger.”

Danny Kingad doesn’t see a finish in Demetrious Johnson-Adriano Moraes trilogy
Team Lakay’s Danny Kingad believes that the trilogy matchup between ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes will require the assistance of the judges.
On May 5 in Colorado, ONE’s US debut will be headlined by the third fight between the rivals with everything to play for. Having both scored huge finishes over each other in their previous two meetings, ONE Fight Night 10 is set to be an unmissable night.
In the same interview, Danny Kingad predicted that now that they have both finished each other inside the circle, the third fight will be a closer contest that will go the full 25-minute distance:
“I think this time, this fight will go to a decision. They both like to time their offense and have tremendous footwork. They’ll have a technical match until the time runs out. Although the first two fights ended in finishes, I think this third fight will go the distance.”
Having faced both men in the past, Danny Kingad will be watching closely on May 5 to see who he could potentially face in the near future, given his No.3 ranking in the flyweight division.
The Filipino fighter is currently in training for his fight at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video. On February 24 in Bangkok, Thailand, he will face Eko Roni Saputra at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
