Danny Kingad taking a different approach as he works his way to the top: "I'm being more diligent now"
Third-ranked flyweight MMA contender Danny Kingad believes he'd need to switch things up a bit if he wants to make another run towards the divisional gold.
And he'll have the perfect chance to do so when he runs it back with former ONE flyweight MMA world champion Adriano Moraes at ONE 169 inside the Lumpinee Stadium on Nov. 8.
After enduring a run of mixed results — two victories from his last five — the Lions Nation MMA man admits he'd need to take a different approach to get back on track.
In a pre-fight interview with ONE Championship, before he returns to the global stage in Bangkok, Thailand, Danny Kingad said:
"Each time I have come close to the top before, I ended up losing. There's no frustration, but I'm being more diligent now."
The 29-year-old's first run at the divisional gold came after he racked up a 3-0 resume under the ONE banner against Muhamad Haidar (TKO), Eugene Toquero (submission), and Muhammad Aiman (unanimous decision).
Unfortunately, 'The King's' dream came to a crashing end as Moraes submitted him in the opening round of their world title tilt inside the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
Kingad went on to build another solid six-match winning streak, including a run to the final of the ONE Flyweight MMA World Grand Prix Championship.
However, Demetrious Johnson decisively beat the former to emerge victorious and kickstart what would soon be the start of a glorious run at the top of the flyweight MMA division.
Danny Kingad can work his way to ONE gold with a statement win over Adriano Moraes
Danny Kingad has a chance to make things right again when he takes to the ring inside the iconic venue to run it back with Moraes.
Fans should be in for an absolute treat in this one as Kingad is eager to seal his world championship dream and pull one back. But Moraes shares a similar ambition to regain his throne, and he'd do all he can to pull away with another win on fight night.
Only time will tell whether or not either man would earn another shot at the 26 pounds of gold, but with the belt now vacated after Johnson's retirement at ONE 168: Denver, it'll be hard to deny them another five-round scrap should they emerge victorious at ONE 169.
North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription can catch the entire card live in U.S. primetime for free on Friday, November 8.
