DC draws parallels between Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 and Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Daniel Cormier recently weighed in on Jon Jones' upcoming heavyweight clash against Stipe Miocic. He compared it to the infamous bout between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

'Bones' is set to make his first heavyweight title defense next weekend against Miocic. The pair will headline the UFC 309 event, which takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

The bout marks a return to action for Jones after a year on the sidlines, whereas Miocic will step back in the octagon for the first time since his KO loss to Francis Ngannou in 2021.

Ahead of their highly anticipated clash next weekend, Cormier opted to share his thoughts on the fight during a recent episode of his Good Guy / Bad Guy podcast with Chael Sonnen. According to 'DC', Jones vs. Miocic has a similar feeling to McGregor vs. Nurmagomedov.

The UFC Hall of Famer stated that he feels as though the fight isn't only important for the division but the sport as a whole, which is the same feeling he felt when 'The Notorious' faced 'The Eagle' at UFC 229. He said:

"Conor McGregor and Khabib [Nurmagomedov] fought and it was bigger than just for the division. When you have big fights, sometimes it feels like this fight means more to the entire sport. It feels like that with this one [Jones vs. Miocic]."

Jon Jones wants to face Alex Pereira next, not Tom Aspinall

It appears as though Tom Aspinall's hopes of facing Jon Jones are falling by the wayside. 'Bones' once again dismissed the idea of facing the interim heavyweight champ.

Ahead of his clash against Stipe Miocic next weekend, Jones spoke to veteran sports journalist Kevin Iole on his YouTube channel. During the interview, Jones was asked whether he'd unify the division by facing Aspinall if he beats Mioicic. However, the 37-year-old had another name in mind. He said:

"More than likely not. I feel like Tom Aspinall is, I don't want to say 'nobody', but he just hasn't proven anything. He hasn't done anything. And I understand that, I mean, he won his belt against Sergei [Pavlovich]. Sergei Just got slaughtered by someone else so it's like, I'm not here to gamble someone else making a name off of me. I'm here to compete against the guys where, when we look back ten years from now, it'll be like 'Jon Jones fought this guy and that guy and this legend and this champion."

He continued:

"If there were to be a fight [with] a guy that's still on the UFC roster that would be, not only financially worth it, but 'legacy' worth it, it would be Alex Pereira."
