Decorated UFC veteran Jose Aldo lets Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro stay at his mansion

Jose Aldo has been in the hotseat with some fans this week after letting former Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro stay at his home over the Christmas period.

The retired UFC veteran is one of the biggest MMA stars in the world and is quite rightly a hero to those in his home country. Aldo owns multiple homes across the world thanks to his successful MMA career, which includes a mansion in Orlando, Florida.

In a story by TheRioTimes, it's believed that Bolsonaro, whose term of the presidency ended on the 31st of December 2022, fled the country two days before he was set to leave office. He is said to be close to being arrested in a police probe on corruption charges and has decided to flee the country, although it has not yet been officially confirmed.

The former Brazilian president is a far-right politician and has been notoriously known for outlandish statements and remarks during his time in office. The 67-year-old made headlines for his views on women after he once told a congresswoman:

“I wouldn’t r*pe you because you don’t deserve it.”

Jair Bolsonaro also opposed LGBTQ groups and equality throughout his reign and often made offensive remarks and slurs. One of the most notable was when he admitted he wouldn't love his son if he was a member of the LGBTQ community:

“I'd be incapable of loving a homosexual son."

Jose Aldo is yet to respond to the controversy involving himself and the former Brazilian president.

When Alexander Volkanovski labeled Jose Aldo as the GOAT of the featherweight division

Despite currently reigning supreme at the top of the featherweight division, Alexander Volkanovski thinks he's far from being discussed in the GOAT category.

According to 'The Great', his three victories over Max Holloway mean there is only one name that can be considered the greatest 145'er in history, and that's Jose Aldo.

Volkanovski was full of praise for the Brazilian former champ prior to UFC 281, and stated that while he is in awe of Aldo and his career, he's planning on taking the mantle from him:

“I still look at [Jose] Aldo as the GOAT of the featherweight division. Obviously, I’m still planning to take that, right? I plan on winning. I wanna defend, defend, defend. I plan on getting just as much defenses as him. And especially when you look at the resume and who I’ve fought, a lot of people are going to agree that I’m up there.
"I mean, right now, to have that many defenses like he did, even though some of them were in a different promotion, but they still consider them defenses. I’ve got so much respect for Aldo.”
