Demetrious Johnson comments on Wakanda Forever
Demetrious Johnson is a big fan of Marvel’s latest theatrical release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Anyone who follows ‘Mighty Mouse’ on social media or listens to the flyweight world champion's interviews is well aware that he is a massive fan of video games and comic books. Speaking with ONE Championship, Demetrious Johnson discussed Marvel’s long-awaited sequel to the 2018 blockbuster Black Panther.
“Black Panther was great, it was a different direction than I thought it was gonna go. I really loved Namor out of everything in the whole movie. I felt like Namor is the first legit mutant that they brought into the MCU...The first time you see Black Panther, like his civilization which is built around vibranium, you kind of see underwater where they have their own machines, and they talk to the animals and the sea creatures.”
Namor, also known as the Sub-Mariner, first appeared in Marvel Comics #1 in 1939. Sometimes a hero, sometimes a villain, Namor is a mutant who has joined some of the biggest teams in comic book history, including The Avengers, The Defenders, and The X-Men. The character finally made his big screen debut in Wakanda Forever, portrayed by Mexican-born actor Tenoch Huerta.
Demetrious Johnson supports Shuri becoming the new Black Panther in Wakanda Forever
With the tragic passing of Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman in 2020, Marvel fans were left shocked, saddened, and wondering whether or not they would see Black Panther on the big screen again. Fortunately, fans were once again able to see the beloved character return to the big screen in an action-packed yet touching tribute to Boseman, who was among the most revered characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Demetrious Johnson continued to talk about the movie and how he supports Shuri as the new Black Panther:
“Just the whole genre of them was pretty amazing and I really enjoyed that. I hope that’s not the last of Namor. I hope we get a Disney+ version of Namor. I think they really utilized that character and I hope they continue to utilize him again. As far as Shuri being Black Panther, I think it’s good, it’s perhaps in the comic book. Ms. [Angela] Bassett, I think she did an amazing job.”
When Johnson isn’t engrossed in the world of comic books and video games, he’s staying busy in the gym as he prepares for his highly-anticipated trilogy bout with flyweight rival Adriano Moraes.
Demetrious Johnson will put his 26.4 lbs of ONE gold on the line when the two warriors meet for the third and potentially final time at ONE on Prime Video 10 in May.
