Demetrious Johnson discusses Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic, says the fight doesn't need a title: "That's a legend fight"
Demetrious Johnson recently weighed in on the ongoing debate regarding the top of the UFC's heavyweight division. As things stand, Jon Jones is expected to face Stipe Miocic in what could very well be his final fight.
Many, however, are hopeful that 'Bones' will face Tom Aspinall, who currently holds the UFC interim heavyweight title. Johnson, speaking on the situation, noted that the Miocic-Jones bout is a legacy fight for both men. Jones, however, doesn't stand to gain much if he was to face Aspinall instead.
The debate began after Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich to win the interim heavyweight championship after an injury to 'Bones' forced the UFC to postpone his bout against Miocic. Since then, Aspinall earned another first-round knockout win over Curtis Blaydes, which is when fans began clamoring for an Aspinall vs. Jones showdown to unify the belts.
During his appearance on MMA legend Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson's JAXXON PODCAST, Demetrious Johnson shared his thoughts on the heavyweight clash between the two legends. Johnson mentioned that the Jones vs. Miocic fight is bigger than a title and noted that 'Bones' legacy wouldn't be affected should he retire without fighting Aspinall. He said:
"Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic doesn't even need to be for a belt. Like, that's a legend fight, those two fighting. And then, I'm sure Jon Jones is gonna get the exact same fu**ing pay whether he's champion or not...Me as a fan, I would love to see Jon Jones fight Tom Aspinall. If he doesn't and he goes, 'I'm gonna just fight Stipe, he's a household name', go ahead, do your thing, Jon."

Demetrious Johnson reacts to being called out at this stage of his MMA career
Similar to Jon Jones being called out by Tom Aspinall, Demetrious Johnson has had his fair share of callouts as of late from Jarred Brooks.
During the aforementioned appearance, Johnson reacted to the callouts and mentioned that he doesn't necessarily devote too much attention to being called out at this stage of his career. He said:
"I can name the whole list of guys that called me out. When you've been around the sport, and I'm grateful to be around the sport for a very, very long time and I'm grateful that people are still calling me out even though I haven't fought in almost a year-and-a-half. I think it's a good problem to have. If people are going to talk about you and you're not even involved in the sport as much as they are, that's a good thing to have."
