“Shut the f*** up and just fight” – Demetrious Johnson on why he doesn’t appreciate trash-talking
Demetrious Johnson isn’t a supporter of trash-talking in MMA.
A verbal bout between fighters can be entertaining and stir up public interest in a fight. Fighters like Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen come to mind. However, one of the greatest fighters of all time, 'Mighty Mouse', doesn’t believe it’s necessary.
During an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience, Johnson had this to say about psychological warfare in MMA:
“There are two sides to me. There’s me who’s just chilling and happy-go-lucky. Then there’s a dark side to me where it’s like they’re paying me to fight. This is how I provide for my family. You can say whatever the f*** you want to me. When that door closes, I’m going to fight you with every bit of me. I’ll fight with a broken hand, broken rib, broken leg. They’re going to fix me back to 100 percent, but I’m going to give 100 percent of me.”
‘Mighty Mouse’ concluded by saying:
“So when I see people cutting each other down and psychological warfare, I’m like why are you talking? Shut the f*** up and just fight.”
The ONE flyweight world champion tends to take a relaxed approach during the build-up to his fights. While it might not be as dramatic a sell as other more boisterous fighters, Johnson’s mindset has created an everlasting legacy based purely on his fighting skills.

Demetrious Johnson isn’t worried about being in the MMA GOAT discussion
Whenever an MMA GOAT conversation arises, Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, and Khabib Nurmagomedov are commonly mentioned, along with arguably the best of them all, Demetrious Johnson.
But the American legend won’t concern himself with this debate. During the same interview, ‘Mighty Mouse’ had this to say about the matter:
“I don’t wanna get lost in that [being too focused on the sport], not succumb to that ego, [and try to] be the GOAT. You know what, we won, how do I get to the end game where our businesses thrive and succeed, and we can ride it out into the sunset?”
Johnson continues to extend his impressive resume, including his latest flying-knee KO win against Adriano Moraes, where he regained the ONE flyweight world title.
