Demetrious Johnson names the one thing that separates him from Jon Jones and other MMA GOAT contenders
Demetrious Johnson recently declared Jon Jones as the MMA's greatest of all time (GOAT) after his demolition of Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, which saw him become the heavyweight champion. However, Johnson himself is often mentioned as one of the best MMA fighters in history.
The duo of Johnson and Jones have been spoken about alongside other elite fighters, including Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre, as candidates for the prestigious title of 'GOAT'.
'Mighty Mouse' was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports, during which he made a distinction between himself and other MMA greats such as Jones and St-Pierre. Demetrious Johnson believes the fact that he hasn't attempted to secure world titles in two weight classes separates Jon Jones and St-Pierre from himself:
"Like you said [the MMA GOAT] is an impossible question, and I've done amazing things as well. The one thing I would say that separates me from those guys, or what separates those guys from me, is those guys have gone up and competed and won world championships in a different weight class. I haven't yet. Henry Cejudo has done it, Jon's done it... that's one thing I haven't done."

Demetrious Johnson holds the UFC record for the most consecutive and most successful title defenses of all time (11). He recently became the ONE Championship flyweight champion, adding another accolade to an already impressive list of achievements.
Johnson's well-rounded MMA game has led to several highlight reel finishes. Most notably, his jumping-armbar submission victory over Ray Borg at UFC 217. 'Mighty Mouse' was awarded Submission of the Year and Fighter of the Year in 2017.
Demetrious Johnson declares Jon Jones the GOAT of MMA
Demetrious Johnson, a strong candidate for the best MMA fighter of all time, recently declared Jon Jones as the sport's GOAT.
Jones was crowned heavyweight champion after submitting Ciryl Gane in the first round of the UFC 285 main event last weekend. 'Bones' is now a two-division champion and will likely face former heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic in his first title defense later this year.
During the same interview as above, 'Mighty Mouse' was asked who he believes the greatest MMA fighter of all time is, to which he replied:
"I've always felt that. I was talking about it on my channel last night and I said, 'Jon Jones didn't have to gain all that weight to do what he did to Gane. He didn't have to.'"
Prior to UFC 285, Jon Jones hadn't competed in the octagon since facing Dominick Reyes in February 2020. 'Bones' defeated Reyes at UFC 247 and shortly thereafter vacated the light heavyweight title, later announcing his move to heavyweight.
Jones spent the next three years putting on muscle to prepare for the heavier opposition, and weighed in at 248 pounds last weekend.
