Demetrious Johnson reacts to MMA and boxing mixed rules street fight

Demetrious Johnson knows a thing or two about competing in mixed-rules matchups. ‘Mighty Mouse’ stepped into the circle at ONE Championship’s 10th-anniversary showcase ONE X last March for a first-of-its-kind mixed-rules superfight against Muay Thai icon Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Johnson recently took to his YouTube channel to share his thoughts on another mixed-rules bout, but this one was far removed from the global stage of ONE Championship’s circle.

Instead, this one took place inside the makeshift outdoor cage of Streetbeefs. ‘Miighty Mouse’ delivers his own hilarious brand of comedy as mixed martial artist Menace Myke takes on striker Rampage in a fight that alternates between the rules of MMA and boxing.

Demetrious Johnson does an excellent job of breaking down the contest as it happens, but it is quite clear we are looking at two individuals that are far from the level of competition you would see in ONE Championship, or any other major promotion that takes itself seriously.

However, the skill level of the combatants was far from the biggest issue Johnson took with the fight. It was the inept referee who repeatedly stood the competitors up during dominant ground positions:

“What the f*ck? This referee is ridiculous right now. He is ridiculous. Streetbeefs, I love you guys. You guys gotta fire that ref. This man’s in full f*cking mount and you’re telling him to stand up. Full mount and you tell him to stand up. This guy is worse than Steve Mazzagatti.”

Demetrious Johnson excited to compete in front of an American crowd once again

On May 5, Demetrious Johnson will compete in front of an American crowd for the first time in nearly five years. On that date, ONE Championship will make its long-awaited U.S. debut, invading the 1stBANK Center in Colorado for ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video.

In the main event of the evening, ‘Mighty Mouse’ will defend his ONE flyweight world championship against division rival Adriano Moraes in a highly anticipated trilogy bout. Ahead of their third and presumably final meeting, Demetrious Johnson shared his excitement for fighting in the United States once again before hanging up his gloves:

"I'm super excited... Obviously, I started my career in the United States of America and I'll come back to it this late in my career. It's amazing. So I'm very happy for the fans, the fans over in America, to get the opportunity to see me fight once again."
