Demetrious Johnson received “great knowledge” from Georges St. Pierre about fighting and retirement

Demetrious Johnson received some helpful advice from another mixed martial arts legend regarding retirement.

ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5 saw ‘Mighty Mouse’ secure his second-straight win over former eight-time world titleholder Adriano Moraes, closing out their iconic trilogy in spectacular fashion. With the ONE flyweight world championships still wrapped firmly around his waist, Demetrious Johnson is contemplating what comes next; another ONE world title defense or retirement.

After nearly two decades of excellence in MMA, Demetrious Johnson could comfortably walk away as one of the pound-for-pound greatest of all time. But before making such a big decision, ‘Mighty Mouse’ revealed that he received some advice from another pound-for-pound great, Georges St-Pierre. ”

Johnson said in an interview with MMA Junkie:

“So then, I started to put my thoughts in other things, this other thing, and you know, I’ve already talked to GSP and he gave me some great, great knowledge... And, so yeah, we’re just gonna see, you know.”

Despite having many years of shelf life left, GSP retired from the sport after becoming a two-division world champion. Johnson also revealed that he was planning to pick the brain of other MMA standouts that chose to walk away from the sport in their prime, including Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Demetrious Johnson hasn’t quite made up his mind yet and has no interest in rushing the decision. Currently, ‘Mighty Mouse’ is enjoying some downtime with his family while pursuing other avenues of revenue. Fans are undoubtedly hoping ONE Fight Night 10 wasn’t the last stand for DJ, but if it was, it’s been a hell of a ride.
