Demetrious Johnson relates to John Lineker's pain, shares why he always wears a steel cup
Like most fans, MMA legend Demetrious Johnson winced after seeing John Lineker take an illegal groin strike during his title fight at ONE on Prime Video 3.
Few things went as planned for 'Hands of stone' in what was scheduled to be his first ONE bantamweight title defense. From missing weight and being stripped of his belt to nearly being finished, the 32-year-old will be looking to rebound in his next outing.
'Mighty Mouse' recently sat down with Joe Rogan on his podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, during which he empathized with Lineker's pain:
"I think this time I was wearing a plastic cup and he kicked me there, and my s*** was like, ‘Yeah, never again, I’m not going to wear a f**king plastic cup, I’m going to wear a steel cup,’ because I got kicked in the balls, kneed in the balls."
Many viewers' jaws dropped after seeing Lineker reveal his shattered cup following the low blow from Fabricio Andrade. To that, 'Mighty Mouse' added:
"That’s why I’m wearing it, even now when I’m grappling in the gi, I still wear my cup when I grapple in the knee. If my opponent wants to wear a steel cup, please do. I will insist you do wear a steel cup because I can’t promise that my kicks aren’t gonna make it up there. Well, I don’t want to, but s*** happens."
