Demetrious Johnson says Adriano Moraes is used to losing the belt and getting it back
Demetrious Johnson is one of the greatest pound-for-pound mixed martial artists of all time. He faces another legacy fight in his third meeting with familiar foe Adriano Moraes next year.
'Mighty Mouse' rebounded in a big way in their second meeting, finishing the Brazilian star with a flying knee in the fourth round. The highly anticipated trilogy bout is slated to headline ONE on Prime Video 10 in May 2023.
In the title fight's leadup, Demetrious Johnson spoke with ONE Championship about facing a hungry opponent who's in search of regaining his belt. He stated:
“You look at Geje Eustaquio and Kairat Akhmetov. [Moraes is] used to this. He’s used to losing the belt and then getting the opportunity to get it back – and he usually gets it back. He’s been here before and that’s the biggest thing that I see.”
Moraes, who was the inaugural ONE Championship flyweight champ, has lost and re-acquired the world title on two separate occasions. He'll look to attain the flyweight strap for a third time with a win over Johnson.
Fabricio Andrade open to fighting MMA legend Demetrious Johnson in the future
Rising bantamweight star Fabricio Andrade is on the cusp of becoming a world champion as well as a household name.
The top contender recently spoke with the promotion regarding a possible matchup with 'Mighty Mouse' at some point down the line. He told ONE:
“I would definitely consider fighting him. He's a legend of the sport, he has a huge history in MMA. So, having the possibility to fight him would be a very good thing for my career."
'Wonder Boy' continued:
"But there is the issue of weight difference. I don't know if I could get down to his division, and I also don't know if he's interested in moving up, but if there was any possibility of this fight happening, I would really like it.”
Despite being far less experienced, Andrade would provide a very intriguing matchup for Johnson. The 25-year-old is viewed as one of the top prospects in all of MMA, regardless of promotion.
