Demetrious Johnson says fans in Seattle would love if he headlined a ONE Championship event there

‘Mighty Mouse’ Demetrious Johnson believes Seattle fans would flock in droves to see a ONE Championship event hosted in their home city.

Johnson is currently en route to headlining ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The news broke when the state of Colorado approved ONE Championship’s global ruleset in MMA, which allows grounded knees to an opponent, among other things.

Following the event, which takes place on Friday, May 5, ONE Championship’s mission is to continue expanding their brand, meaning they will host more future events across the United States.

With ONE Fight Night 10 coming around the corner, Seattle fans are embracing the possibility that Demetrious Johnson could headline his next fight in his home state of Washington.

Speaking at the ONE Fight Night 6 post-fight interviews, ‘Mighty Mouse’ responded to the fans and said:

“That would be amazing if we could headline, and get ONE Championship to come to Seattle. I think the fans in Seattle will absolutely love what ONE Championship brings as a brand and as an event itself with the kickboxing, Muay Thai, and mixed martial arts. I think they'll absolutely love it.”

The Washington-state wrestler is headed towards his third showdown with former flyweight king Adriano Moraes this May, with a desire to cement his legacy as the undisputed ONE flyweight world champion under the ONE banner.

While doing his due diligence, ‘Mighty Mouse’ said he continues to train in all aspects of his game - wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and boxing - to give his home crowd the best show they’ve ever seen.

Demetrious Johnson reveals the key to his longevity

36-year-old Demetrious Johnson has been fighting professionally for the past 16 years. However, not all of those 16 years have been injury or risk-free.

According to many MMA sources, the average age of retirement falls between 35 and 40 years of age. So, when you have ‘Mighty Mouse', who is still going strong and arguably looking better than he ever did before, what has been the key to his longevity?

In the same interview, Johnson responded:

“The key to longevity is just knowing when to train and when not to train. The last time I done any mixed martial arts training is Thanksgiving. The last time I’ve been punched in the face, is been by about, two months, and I think that’s probably what helps with my longevity.”
