“I learned that on Instagram” - Demetrious Johnson says he takes knowledge where he can get it
ONE flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is one of the pound-for-pound greats in MMA. His incredibly well-rounded skill set has seen him dominate the flyweight division in the UFC and recently win a world championship inside the Circle.
In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, ‘DJ’ and the UFC’s long-running color commentator discussed Johnson’s life. Speaking about elite grapplers on social media, ‘Mighty Mouse’ added how useful these platforms can be for learning new techniques and adding to his game:
“It’s funny because when I’m grappling in my gi, I’ll come back and I’ll see something on Instagram like ‘Okay I see that’ and I’ll come in the gym and I’m like ‘Huh! success it works!’ then I’ll get them in a choke and I’ll be like ‘I learned that on Instagram’ and they’re like ‘Shut the hell up!’ I was like ‘I swear to God,' just this morning. The internet can be a good place, it could be a horrible place.”
He added:
“There’s great information on the internet to get. You know, techniques to see how somebody did a certain move or how they’re manipulating or s*** to fix a car.”
“Good for my confidence” - Demetrious Johnson on decision to face Rodtang in mixed rules fight

In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), Johnson went into detail about how the fight came about and what it was like from his perspective. Coming into the fight after being stopped by Adriano Moraes in his previous fight, Demetrious Johnson explained how going toe-to-toe with one of the world's most dangerous strikers helped to build his confidence.
Johnson recounted his experience with the Muay Thai phenom:
“It was fun just exchanging with him, and I think having this fight was good for my career and good for my confidence, to come off a loss against Adriano [Moraes] then come back and fight another tough striker.”
