Demetrious Johnson will have his sons watching him fight from Circleside
Demetrious Johnson will have his children Circleside on May 5 when he defends his ONE flyweight world championship.
After scoring a brutal fourth-round knockout against Adriano Moraes at ONE on Prime Video 1 last August to capture the promotion’s flyweight world title, ‘Mighty Mouse’ will return to defend it for the first time against the same man he took it from. The pair will headline the ONE’s highly anticipated U.S. debut next month with 26 pounds of gold and a whole lot of pride on the line.
In an interview with Fox 13 Seattle, Demetrious Johnson revealed that he will have some extra motivation going into his title fight as his children will be Circleside to watch him compete for the very first time.
“They’re at the age now where, ‘Dad, what do you do for a living?’ I’m like, ‘I fight for a living, son’. So for them to be there cage side, it’s going to be amazing,” Johnson said.
With just a few fights left before potentially hanging up his gloves, ‘Mighty Mouse’ is determined to deliver a showstopping performance or go out on his shield. At this point, the undisputed flyweight GOAT has little left to prove having won world championships in multiple top-shelf organizations, but one fully expects to see a better-than-ever Demetrious Johnson and his family motivating him with their presence.
On the other side, it’s essentially a do-or-die situation for Adriano Moraes. If he comes up short against Johnson, he will likely find himself outside of the ONE flyweight world title picture for an extended period. At least until Johnson drops the title or walks away from MMA altogether. These are two things we don’t anticipate happening for quite some time.
