The MMA world at large is enjoying Dillon Danis and Ariel Helwani's witty exchanges. The two had an hour-long verbal tussle during Danis' recent in-person interview on The MMA Hour. 'El Jefe' explained how he forked over a significant sum to his current promoter, Bellator, in order to book a bout against KSI. He also boasted that he's currently generating more money than any MMA champion.

Some may perceive genuine indignation on the part of Helwani, given that some of Dillon Danis's responses provoked a strong reaction from the MMA reporter. Helwani also mentioned the recent confrontation between Danis and Anthony Taylor during the Misfits Boxing x DAZN Series 003 weigh-ins.

During a recent episode of Beyond the Fight with Chael Sonnen, Dillon Danis took a jab at Helwani for being a bully and getting too emotional on air while discussing their exchange:

"He's [Helwani] very emotional, very sensitive. He can give it out but he can't take it, which is one of the worst things you can be in this world....He's a bully, he doesn't take criticism well."

Danis also asserted that Helwani's reactions had called their relationship into question:

"I can’t tell like after he wants to talk to me so I really can’t tell if he took it to heart. I didn’t take anything he said to heart, I mean like, I couldn’t, it just bounces right off me you know so I’m kind of used to it. Maybe’s he just not used to getting criticism to his face. … He was just like super upset, I don’t know. I heard he was on like estrogen, so like maybe he’s on estrogen, like a replacement therapy, or something, he’s very emotional.”

Dillon Danis justifies his decision to box KSI instead of booking a Bellator MMA bout

Dillon Danis is scheduled to return to combat sports on January 14, 2023, when he faces YouTube star KSI in a boxing contest. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu prodigy and Bellator MMA contender has been sidelined for more than three years due to injuries.

According to 'El Jefe,' he was required to pay substantial fees to his current organization, Bellator MMA, in order to pursue the bout with KSI. Even his teammate and MMA superstar Conor McGregor stated that he would rather see Dillon Danis compete within the MMA realm than chase a fight against a YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Brother you’re a friendly little nerd I don’t care. He should be back doing mma if he is doing this little nothing burger match with you. I couldn’t care less about this genre of boxing, I am sorry. Have a good one. twitter.com/KSI/status/160…

Speaking about why he chose to fight KSI as opposed to competing in MMA in the aforementioned interview, Danis simply stated:

"It is a lot of money to beat up a guy who doesn't know how to fight."
