Dillon Danis drops two-word reaction criticizing Islam Makhachev's guillotine choke from training footage ahead of UFC 302

Islam Makhachev has just become one of several of Dillon Danis' latest trash-talking targets. Footage of the UFC lightweight champion rolling on the mats has made the rounds on social media, with an Instagram post from ESPN MMA featuring a snippet of Makhachev practicing his guillotine choke.

The clip is short and appears to show little else besides Makhachev using the guillotine choke as a means of controlling his opponent's posture to subsequently roll on top of them. Nevertheless, this drew Danis' attention, who couldn't help but share his thoughts on the Dagestani's skills.

Taking to the comment section of the Instagram post, Danis, who is known for his past as a submission grappler, dismissed Makhachev's guillotine choke in typical fashion.

"Terrible technique"

This isn't the first time that Danis has criticized more accomplished fighters, as he has previously claimed that he could defeat both Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou in street fights due to his Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills. This brand of trolling has become synonymous with Danis, such that many wonder if he is being sincere.

Most, however, believe that he is merely doing whatever he can to keep his name in the news cycle. As for why Makhachev is practicing the guillotine choke? He is a grappler and it is part of his repertoire on the mat, where he is a more dedicated submission artist than his mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Second, it is considered a signature move of his UFC 302 opponent, Dustin Poirier, despite the fact that 'The Diamond' has never beaten anyone with a guillotine choke. As Makhachev is set to defend his lightweight title against Poirier, he could be simply preparing himself for a guillotine onslaught.

Islam Makhachev has never submitted anyone with a guillotine choke in MMA

It is worth noting that, while Dustin Poirier has also never finished anyone with a guillotine choke, neither has Islam Makhachev. Of the Dagestani phenom's 11 submission wins as a professional fighter, none have come by way of a guillotine choke. Instead, his most frequent submission maneuver is the rear-naked choke.

Check out Islam Makhachev's rear-naked choke of Thiago Moisés:

He has choked out Migel Grigoryan, Leo Kuntz, and Thiago Moisés with the maneuver. Meanwhile, he has the same number of finishes with armbars, having submitted Anatoly Kormilkin, Yuri Ivlev, and Kajan Johnson. Below that is the arm-triangle choke, with which he submitted Charles Oliveira and Drew Dober.

Lastly, his kimura has submitted Dan Hooker, and he has triangle-choked Magomed Ibragimov, and beaten Ivica Trušček with an inverted triangle choke.
