Does Israel Adesanya still have gyno?

Israel Adesanya's gynecomastia has been one of the most debated topics concerning the former two-time middleweight champion's work ethic. Adesanya seemed to have first developed the condition heading into his UFC 253 clash against bitter rival Paulo Costa. The condition sparked online debate as many attributed it to potential steroid use.

While Adesanya underwent extensive testing and later claimed that he got it from excessive use of Marijuana, many continued to suspect steroid use. While Adesanya's gynecomastia continued to reappear for his subsequent UFC fights, the situation seems to have changed now.

Does Israel Adesanya still have gyno?

Israel Adesanya took a long break from a busy competitive schedule following his UFC 293 defeat against Sean Strickland in September 2023. According to Adesanya and his teammates, the 35-year-old utilized the time off from competition to get rid of nagging injuries, and personal issues as well as to improve his training methods.

While Adesanya's gynecomastia has become more visible in weeks before his fights, presumably because most fighters get ripped for the fights, that does not seem to be the case as he prepares for his UFC 305 comeback fight against Dricus du Plessis.

While some may notice a slight difference between Adesanya's left and right pecs, the gynecomastia appears to have completely vanished. So no, Israel Adesanya does not have gynecomastia now.

Israel Adesanya's detailed explanation of the reason behind his gynecomastia

Israel Adesanya's struggle with gynecomastia continued for the next few years after the initial appearance. Ahead of his UFC 281 clash against bitter kickboxing rival Alex Pereira, Adesanya's gynecomastia became apparent once again and many prominent MMA personalities like former rival Paulo Costa and famed coach Firas Zahabi commented on the same.

However, Adesanya had given a detailed explanation of the reason behind his condition during an interview with Ariel Helwani in November 2020. He said:

"I had an ultrasound and a mammogram for the first time. To be honest, it might have just been unhealthy living a little bit. Like smoking weed. That’s what the doctor from the UFC said. He said I need to stop, but I’m not stopping; I’m just going to slow down on the smoking weed. It’s just a fat deposit but after a performance like that [against Costa] I’d think I was on steroids too, because it was just mind-blowing." [H/T Mirror]
