"Either get on the sidelines permanently or get in the game"- Dominick Reyes talks about Jon Jones' long layoff after 'Bones' won a close decision against him

Dominick Reyes thinks Jon Jones needs to book a fight or retire.

Thirty-three months ago, Jones gave Reyes his first loss in a controversial unanimous decision for the UFC light heavyweight title. ‘The Devastator’ has fought and lost twice since their UFC 247 showdown, while ‘Bones’ has not fought since February 2020.

During an interview with James Lynch, Reyes sounded off on Jones’ inactivity by saying:

"Who's to say, man? I mean, it's been so long since he fought, since we fought. That whole literally running from me thing, saying he doesn't get paid enough to fight me again. The whole deal was a complete joke. Then getting arrested again, multiple times. Dude, make up your mind. You know? It's hard to say because I don't know who he's training with. I don't know what's going on. I don't really care to be honest. Either get on the sidelines permanently or get in the game. What are you gonna do? "

Jones took time to transform his body for the heavyweight division correctly. Now that ‘Bones’ is ready to fight, the UFC seems to be weighing its options between Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic. Meanwhile, Reyes needs to get back on track after suffering severe damage from his last three fights.

What’s next for Dominick Reyes?

Dominick Reyes has gone down a dark path since fighting Jon Jones. ‘The Devastator’ joined the UFC in 2017 with a record of 6-0. Reyes started his UFC tenure with three straight finishes. From there, he knocked off Ovince St. Preux, Volkan Oezdemir, and Chris Weidman to emerge as a top-light heavyweight contender.

Reyes then lost a controversial decision to Jones and suffered two violent knockout losses to Jan Blachowicz and Jiri Prochazka. Eighteen months after losing to Prochazka, the former light heavyweight title challenger returns at UFC 281 against Ryan Spann.

Despite Reyes being counted out by most of the MMA community, the 32-year-old is still the number seven-ranked UFC light heavyweight. With a win against number twelve-ranked Spann, ‘The Devastator’ is only a couple of wins away from being back in the title shot discussion.
