Drake wagers huge dual bets on Jon Jones to conquer Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 showdown
Jon Jones is set to take on Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 285 this weekend. The pair will battle for the vacant heavyweight title, and rapper Drake has placed two massive bets on 'Bones' to win via finish.
Drake is known for his love of gambling, and often places bets on UFC fighters. He placed over 1 million Canadian dollars on Israel Adesanya to beat Alex Pereira at UFC 281 last year.
It appears that Drake is immensely confident that Jones will finish Gane, as the rapper placed $250,000 Canadian dollars on Jones to win via KO and $250,000 on Jones to win via submission.
An image of the two bets was posted on Twitter by @br_betting earlier today, and said this:
"Drake dropping a total of $500K on Jon Jones to win by submission and by KO. Jon Jones only loss in his career was a DQ..."
Check out he tweet below:
Heading into UFC 285, many believe that Jones carries a severe grappling advantage over Ciryl Gane.
Fans have pointed to Gane's bout against Francis Ngannou at UFC 270, where 'The Predator' implemented a wrestling-heavy approach against Gane. Ngannou was not known for his wrestling pedigree, but was able to dominate 'Bon Gamin' on the ground with little resistance.
Many believe that if Francis Ngannou is able to dominate Ciryl Gane in grappling, then Jones will be able to secure a finish on the ground without a problem. This means that Jon Jones could help Drake win either $1.3 million or $1.7 million, depending on the type of finish he secures.
Dana White ponders on the effect on a three-year break will have on Jon Jones
Ring rust is a term associated with fighters coming back to competition after an extended time away from the sport. The theory about ring rust states that the more time there is in between a fighter's previous bout and their next one, the more difficult it will be for them to perform well.
Dana White recently spoke to TMZSports about Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane, and pondered the effects that Jones' three-year break will have on his performance.
'Bones' vacated the light heavyweight title in August 2020 and announced he would be moving to heavyweight. Jones decided he would take the time to bulk up in preparation for the heavyweight division, and weighed in at 247 pounds for his championship bout.
Whilst Dana White speculated on whether or not 'Bones' will be affected by ring rust, he commended Jones' decision to prepare for his move to heavyweight.
"I'm a big believer in ring rust, look at [Muhammad] Ali. Ali had three years and when he came back he didn't look the same. But Jon Jones is a freak of nature. Everybody's questioning the weight, but he did the weight the right way."
