Dricus du Plessis delivers spine-chilling prediction for UFC 312 rematch against Sean Strickland: "They'll call it attempted murder"
Dricus du Plessis has made a bold prediction for his upcoming rematch against Sean Strickland. This came after it was confirmed that the pair would be running it back at UFC 312 on Feb. 9 in Sydney, Australia.
During the UFC 310 broadcast last weekend, the promotion officially confirmed du Plessis and Strickland would be heading 'Down Under' to face-off once again. The pair previously fought back in January, which saw 'Stillknocks' narrowly edge out a split-decision win over 'Tarzan' to win the middleweight title.
Du Plessis has since gone on to defend the belt against Israel Adesanya, whereas Strickland has waited patiently on the sidelines, convinced the close nature of his first bout against the South African would be rewarded with a rematch. Now that their clash has been announced, both du Plessis and Strickland have had their say.
Taking to X, Dricus du Plessis delivered a spine-chilling prediction, stating that nothing about their second fight would be close. He tweeted:
"This time they won't call it a robbery, they'll call it attempted murder. #UFC312 #preparetobeamazed"
Sean Strickland wrote that he plans on bringing 'freedom' back to Australia once again. The American has previously had success fighting in the country, last year stunning the world when he dominated Adesanya to win the title. He tweeted:
"Time to bring back from freedom to Australia. Deny Depose Defend.. No idea where this saying is from or who said it but I like. Real catchy..... but no idea.."
Jon Anik names dream opponent for Dricus du Plessis
Jon Anik recently revealed that the dream fight he'd like to see would be Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev.
'Borz' has all but assured himself as the next contender for the 185-pound belt, following his dominant win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. Chimaev took the former champion down at will and submitted him inside the first round.
Anik was then asked about the middleweight title picture and his dream matchup during a recent interview with Odd Shark Sports. He said:
"My dream matchup right now is Khamzat Chimaev vs. Dricus du Plessis. I'm not sure that we can put together a more interesting championship matchup right now. With respect to Sean Strickland, who is a deserving number one contender and former champion, I think Khamzat Chimaev really upset the apple cart with what he did against Robert Whittaker. That's the fight that I would like to see."
