Dustin Poirier answers if he will be down to fight Nate Diaz in his last ever bout
Dustin Poirier recently answered whether he would be open to fighting Nate Diaz should he return to the octagon for one final bout. It appeared as though the Louisiana native would be retiring, however, he has at least remained open to the idea of competing again.
The Louisiana native most recently competed at UFC 302, where he was submitted by Islam Makhachev in the main event. It was his third attempt at becoming UFC lightweight champion, and so many believe as though he could decide to call it a career. Since the loss, fans have expressed interest in seeing Poirier compete again, with Diaz being among the potential opponents.
A fan took to X and asked 'The Diamond' whether he would even consider fighting the Stockton native at this stage of their respective careers. Poirier replied with a two-word response, confirming that he would entertain the offer. He wrote:
"I'm down"

Is Dustin Poirier vs. Nate Diaz realistic?
A bout between Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz is very much a possibility despite the Stockton native not being under contract with the UFC.
After defeating Tony Ferguson in the final bout of his contract, the former 'TUF' winner made it clear that he intended to compete in boxing bouts before returning to the UFC. He has since fought Jake Paul and Jorge Masvidal, which saw him defeat the latter and could receive a lucrative offer to return to the octagon.
Poirier and Diaz have been linked to a potential bout for years and were even scheduled to compete at UFC 230 in 2018. However, the fight failed to materialize after 'The Diamond' was forced to withdraw due to an injury and the bout was scrapped.
It would be interesting to see whether the UFC pursues Poirier vs. Diaz and the contested weight, especially considering their popularity. It would certainly be a lucrative fight should it come to fruition and one that could even set the stage for another lucrative bout against Conor McGregor.
