Dustin Poirier calls out Nate Diaz after fan suggests 'The Diamond' to fight the 'Stockton Slugger' and call it a career
It appears as though Dustin Poirier has set his sights on Nate Diaz after a fan suggested that the two compete in the octagon. The former UFC lightweight title challengers have been linked to a potential bout for years, however, nothing materialized.
The closest that a bout between 'The Diamond' and the Stockton native came to being a reality was UFC 230 in 2018. But it wasn't meant to be as both were eventually forced to withdraw from the event and the bout was scrapped entirely. Their respective careers ended up going in different directions as Diaz ended up competing at welterweight, while Poirier remained a fixture in the lightweight title picture.
A fan recently took to X and suggested 'The Diamond' and former TUF winner revisit a potential bout as one that could serve as a perfect sendoff. Diaz is currently a free agent after departing the UFC and has since competed in two boxing bouts. The fan's tweet caught Poirier's attention as he responded with a one-word response that insinuated that the suggestion might have peaked his interest:
"Nathaniel?

Dustin Poirier also expresses interest in trilogy against Justin Gaethje
Nate Diaz isn't the only competitor that has sparked interest as Dustin Poirier also expressed interest in a potential trilogy bout against Justin Gaethje.
Their first bout took place in 2018, which saw 'The Diamond' earn a fourth-round TKO. 'The Highlight' later avenged his loss to the Louisiana native five years later at UFC 291 last July, where he earned an impressive second-round knockout to win the 'BMF' title.
Poirier retweeted a clip from Gaethje's recent media availability, where he named him as a potential opponent when he returns to the octagon, and mentioned that he would be open to a tiebreaker should the promotion offer it:
"You know I'm down [diamond emoji]"
