Dustin Poirier calls out two potential opponents following Ilia Topuria's KO of Max Holloway at UFC 308
Dustin Poirier is in the twilight of his career and has been open about being on the verge of retirement, having accomplished so much across his UFC run. He recently hinted at his next desired opponent following UFC 308.
UFC 308 featured a highly anticipated featherweight showdown between reigning champion Ilia Topuria and UFC legend Max Holloway. With both fighters renowned for their striking, their matchup drew much attention. Ultimately, Topuria came away with a TKO victory.
The tremendous display of boxing skills by Topuria and Holloway at UFC 308 has prompted Poirier to call out both fighters. The former interim champion tweeted:
"I want Max or Topuria"
Poirier then lauded Topuria's boxing while serving as an analyst for the ESPN post-show. 'The Diamond' shared another tweet later on and had this to say about 'El Matador':
"He's a great boxer, let's throw them things"
Poirier's last outing was his failed title bid against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 earlier this year. Notably, it was the Louisiana native's third crack at the undisputed lightweight championship, but he fell short, like before, losing via submission all three times.
While the call-out of the undefeated Topuria makes sense, a fight between the two would have to take place at 155 pounds. Meanwhile, a third Poirier vs. Holloway bout would be an odd booking, with 'The Diamond' already 2-0 against 'Blessed'
Dustin Poirier predicts the victor of Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler 2
UFC 309 is stacked with enthralling matchups, including a pivotal lightweight rematch between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler. Dustin Poirier recently discussed the pay-per-view co-main event while serving as an ESPN analyst for UFC 308.
Having shared the octagon with both fan favorites, Poirier is leaning towards a win for 'do Bronx':
"I think if Charles Oliveira goes into this fight with the same mindset he had when I fought him, or the first time Chandler fought him, I think he's gonna get the win."
Poirier lost to Oliveira in his second attempt at the undisputed UFC lightweight belt back in 2021. Meanwhile, Chandler's last fight was his submission loss to 'The Diamond' in 2022.
