Dustin Poirier has been discharged from hospital

Dustin Poirier is out of the hospital after suffering a gruesome staph infection in his foot.

‘The Diamond’ created massive concern in the MMA community when he announced things were getting serious in the hospital. Poirier had a staph infection that escalated after his body reacted negatively to antibiotics.

Several days later, fans are rejoicing as the former UFC interim lightweight champion made an Instagram post with the caption:

“Straight from the hospital to the school play to see my little angel this morning! #PaidInFull #ElDiamante #Mrbounceback @robertgrahamnyc”

Poirier’s hospital stay began to raise concerns about his fighting career being in jeopardy. Every year, there are several concerning stories of fighters getting staph infections from training on sweaty mats.

‘The Diamond’ made it through one of the worst cases to date, with one doctor claiming he could’ve lost his foot.

Doctor Brian Sutterer details how lucky Dustin Poirier was not to have his foot amputated

Concerns for Dustin Poirier continued to grow when he posted a photo of his deformed foot. At first, it was difficult for many fans to understand the severity of Poirier’s situation without a doctor’s opinion.

Luckily, Dr. Brian Sutterer posted a breakdown on his YouTube channel and had this to say:

"He's at that point where it looks like he'll be discharged home from the hospital. Dustin is fortunate here and hopefully this stays behind him. Because staph infections, particularly MRSA, can be fatal. They can spread to the bone and cause osteomyelitis, they can lead to amputations. If that bacteria gets into your bloodstream and spreads kind of throughout your body, you can become septic, which can be fatal. So MRSA is really no joke. It's a pretty common thing that we see."

While recovering in the hospital, Poirier had a back-and-forth altercation with Conor McGregor on Twitter. With McGregor returning in 2023, there seems to be some interest in a fourth fight between the rivals.

There is also a possibility of ‘The Diamond’ fighting Beneil Dariush to determine the number one lightweight contender.
