Dustin Poirier hilariously reveals the reason he's glad for the UFC betting ban

Dustin Poirier is grateful that the UFC has banned fighters from gambling on UFC events.

One of the craziest UFC stories of 2022 was the betting scandal at UFC Vegas 64. In the final hours before Darrick Minner fought Shayilan Nuerdanbieke, the betting lines drastically changed towards Nuerdanbieke. The results matched the suspicious activity, with Minner clearly injured before losing in the first round.

In the aftermath of UFC Vegas 64, a massive investigation was launched against Minner and his well-known coach James Krause. This resulted in all UFC fighters being banned from gambling with ongoing restrictions from training with Krause.

During an interview with BloodyElbow, Dustin Poirier had this to say about the ban to bet on MMA fights:

“Dude, I’m glad it happened because I usually do bet on fights. I’m glad it happened right before that [Sean] O’Malley – [Petr] Yan fight because I would have lost a bunch of money. I would have bet [Mateusz] Gamrot to beat [Beneil] Dariush, I would have bet Petr to beat O’Malley. I would’ve lost a bunch of money, so they saved me some money.”

Rumors are that someone knew Minner was injured going into the fight, but the investigation is ongoing. Diehard MMA fans will remind you that UFC fighters don't always enter the octagon 100% healthy. This could be seen as an advantage for sports bettors who know fighters are compromised before fighting.

Question remains that even if Darrick Minner was injured entering his bout against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke, why throw five kicks and ZERO punches within 30 seconds?

Of those five kicks Minner threw, two were consecutive kicks with his injured left leg. #MMATwitter #MMA #UFCVegas64 https://t.co/anfbjr2rfp

Dustin Poirier believes fighters betting on MMA fights is insider trading

The UFC betting scandal has begun spiraling out of control. Although there have not been any updates in several weeks, federal charges are not out of the equation.

During the same interview with BloodyElbow, Dustin Poirier had this to say about the severity of the gambling investigations:

“But still, it’s insider trading. If I’m training with these guys, and they have an injury going into a fight or whatever, I’m seeing it from a different angle than the public and the matchmakers are seeing it. So, I can see it’s just not a good look in general, and I have no problem being removed from the betting side of mixed martial arts.”

Until further notice, UFC fighters have been banned from training with James Krause at Glory MMA. It’s unclear how this wild situation will end, but it’s safe to say sports betting in MMA will never be the same.

This is wild. Old mma hour episode where James Krause says he makes way more money on betting than coaching. My guess is when The UFC banned fighters and coaches from gambling Krause was like nah fuck them. I’m still betting♥️ #Unreal https://t.co/g4SVJd6N5u
