Dustin Poirier jibes at Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler after UFC makes fight official
Dustin Poirier reacted to the news that Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will both be serving as opposing coaches on Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter.
Poirier took to Twitter to use the announcement as a way to remind the MMA community of his success against both fighters. He was asked his thoughts on the coaching selections and did just that with a jibe directed towards McGregor and Chandler.
He wrote:
"TUF all my children edition"
The comment was in reference to 'The Diamond's win over both McGregor and Chandler. He defeated 'The Notorious' in two of their three bouts and most recently defeated 'Iron' last November at UFC 281.
The MMA community reacted to the former interim lightweight champion's comment, writing:
"Cold blooded" - Derek Brunson
"DP been on a roll with these tweets lately!" - Alan Jouban
"Hilarious!" - Mike Jackson
McGregor and Chandler will fight following the TUF season finale, but UFC President Dana White hasn't said which month or where the fight will likely take place.
Who will Dustin Poirier fight next?
It will be interesting to see what the UFC have planned for Dustin Poirier in terms of his next opponent.
'The Diamond' is coming off a third-round submission win over Michael Chandler at UFC 281 this past November. It was an entertaining bout that earned both fighters a post-fight bonus for Fight of the Night.
Despite getting a win in his most recent bout, 'The Diamond' receiving a lightweight title shot in his next fight is unlikely. The division is stacked and there are other deserving fighters with longer winning streaks who have yet to receive a title shot.
Reigning featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is scheduled to challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title next Saturday at UFC 284, so the outcome will provide a better idea for the promotion as to who receives the next title shot and when.
It will be interesting to see who the UFC match Poirier up against next and whether it will serve as a title eliminator.
