Dustin Poirier refuses to comment on whether Dana White should be punished for slapping wife
Dustin Poirier maintained his usual no-nonsense stance while commenting on Dana White's slap incident. 'Diamond,' although not a man of many words, has always been respected for speaking his mind without bias or fear.
White has come under intense criticism after a video of him exchanging a slap with his wife on New Year's Eve took over the internet. Poirier was recently asked if the UFC president should be sanctioned for slapping his wife.
'Diamond' refused to answer that specific question, emphasizing that he had no knowledge of the nuances of the situation. Bloody Elbow's Eddie Mercado asked Poirier in an exclusive interview:
"Do you think the UFC should issue a sanction on Dana, or suspend him like they would a fighter, or even stay out of it?"
The 33-year-old UFC star replied:
"I’m staying out of it because I’d be talking out my a*s. I don’t know what should happen. I don’t know what should happen."
However, Poirier did not shy away from saying that one should never put their hands on a woman. 'Diamond' also noted that the incident was certainly not a "good look."
Dana White issued an immediate apology in the aftermath of the incident, while his wife Anne released a statement stating that it was highly uncharacteristic of her husband.
Dustin Poirier doesn't think very highly of Dana White's Power Slap League
Dana White recently ventured into the controversial sport of slap fighting by opening the Power Slap League. White's new venture was inevitably brought up after the UFC head honcho was caught on camera slapping his wife.
Questions about White's slap incident are often followed by references to his Power Slap League, which was also the case with Dustin Poirier. Asked if he would consider slap fighting a sport, 'Diamond' told Bloody Elbow:
"Nooo [shakes head]."
Having been unversed with the intricacies of slap fighting, the UFC lightweight contender views the sport as a "toughman competition." The 33-year-old added:
"It’s more of a toughman competition type thing, you know. And I’m just not educated on the techniques of slapping somebody, so."
