Dustin Poirier shares wild story about time he asked to be released from UFC, says he doesn't have "Dana White privilege"
Dustin Poirier recently discussed the time he asked to be released from the UFC, but his request was denied.
During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Poirier spoke to Ariel Helwani and expressed his thoughts on Michael Chandler waiting to fight Conor McGregor. 'The Diamond' asserted that Chandler wasted two years of his life anticipating the McGregor bout, which ultimately fell through at UFC 303.
Poirier claimed Chandler has Dana White Privilege and explained why.
''I think he's [Chandler] got Dana White privilege, so he will be alright... He will do whatever they say... He's just a company man.''
Poirier stated that he doesn't have Dana White privilege when questioned about his relationship with White and the promotion. The former UFC interim lightweight champion also disclosed that he had requested to be let go from the organization.
''I just never had that bond. And I have to fight and push back for everything I have ever got with the UFC. It's been a warzone, behind the scenes, every contract, every fight... When I was asking to be released before I fought Max, in 2018 or 2019 in Atlanta... I don't remember exactly but they were offering fights that I didn't want. I was asking to be released then.''

Dustin Poirier slams Michael Chandler over retirement remarks
When Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler squared off at UFC 281 in November of 2022, Poirier won via third-round submission. Even though 'The Diamond' prevailed in the fight, Chandler was called a dirty fighter by the former UFC interim lightweight champion.
The two have been exchanging insults on social media, suggesting that their conflict hasn't ended. The No. 4-ranked lightweight criticized Chandler harshly for his remarks suggesting that he needs to retire. In the aforementioned interview, Poirier said:
"I mean, come on dude, 'No thanks, retire, we good.' Who the f**k is we? You just got here, buddy. You're not one of us. You're not we. I've been here, you know?
