Dustin Poirier still undecided on UFC future, claims he's "looking for clarity" after heartbreaking UFC 302 loss

Nine days after losing to Islam Makhachev in the UFC 302 main event, Dustin Poirier is still unsure what his future holds. 'The Diamond' believes he is closer to retirement than ever before but is still far from making a firm decision.

On The MMA Hour on June 10, the former interim champion said that he is"looking for clarity" and "taking it one day at a time" but does not have an answer to the question everyone is asking.

"Even being this far from the fight, I still don't know [if I will retire or not]. I'm kind of looking for clarity, searching myself, and taking it one day at a time, but I don't know. I don't know what's next."

The Louisiana native continued to say that he is 'leaning towards being done,' re-stating his antipathy to fight his way back into a fourth title shot. Both Poirier and the UFC promoted UFC 302 as his 'final chance' to become a champion.

During the event fight week, Poirier told the media that he was unlikely to officially announce his retirement at UFC 302 in case he feels the urge to return in the future.

After the loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Dustin Poirier kept his gloves on and did not take them off, the traditional gesture amongst fighters declaring the end of their careers.

Instead during the post-fight octagon interview, Poirier gave Joe Rogan essentially the same message he has been repeating, telling fans that he is unsure of his future but believes he has likely fought for the final time.

Though he was clear to say he was not "100 percent," Poirier thanked his grandmother, mother, wife, and daughter for being alongside him during his journey in life and as a UFC competitor.
