Edgar Berlanga isn’t looking to “survive” against Canelo Alvarez, promises Eddie Hearn ahead of epic clash
Edgar Berlanga will be bringing the fight to Canelo Alvarez, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn. The pair of super middleweights are set to clash on Sept. 14 for the WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring world titles in a rivalry rooted in history.
It will be a battle between Puerto Rico and Mexico come fight night, which takes place in celebration of Mexican Independence Day. Berlanga will be eager to extend Puerto Rico's winning record against its Mexican counterparts, which currently stands at 84 wins to 72 wins in boxing history.
Having secured 16 first-round knockout wins in his first 16 fights, 'The Chosen One' has promised to unload combinations with fury when he faces Alvarez.
Ahead of the fight, Hearn was interviewed by The Schmo and offered an exciting preview of his client's gameplan for fight night. He said:
"You need a little bit of luck against Canelo. You need him to be a little bit underperforming... Our guy is 100% across every part of the board. Untouched, unbeaten, punches very very hard and ready to cause a shock. I think a lot of people come in against Canelo Alvarez and try and survive. He won't, he will be trying to win this fight. It'll be dangerous for him, but he will be rolling the rice in true fashion."

Canelo Alvarez eager to give Edgar Berlanga the "beatdown of his life"
Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga are set to go to war in a super middleweight title fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sept. 14.
Ahead of the bout, Berlanga has not been shy of directing some heated words the way of his opponent. But it seems that the trash talk has been welcomed by the Guadalajara native, who used the fighting words of 'The Chosen One' as added motivation throughout fight camp.
During a recent episode of GLOVES OFF: CANELO VS. BERLANGA, the super middleweight champion said this:
"I like them like that. I like them to be confident and do a lot of talking. I like breaking their face when they play like that. I'm eagerly awaiting the day. It'll be the beatdown of his life."
