Elon Musk and Joe Rogan discuss legal actions targeting SpaceX by the US government: "Fu*ked up man"

Elon Musk recently opened up to Joe Rogan about the legal issues he is facing with SpaceX by the US government. He believes the current laws are putting him in an almost impossible situation.

Earlier this week, Musk appeared on episode #2223 of The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE). The pair discussed a host of topics, but one in particular that intrigued the UFC commentator was the issues Musk is facing with SpaceX.

Musk is the CEO of the private spaceflight company, and has been sending satellites and astronauts to space over the last few years, including helping NASA fly crews to the International Space Station (ISS).

However, it's not been as plain sailing as some might believe, and Musk shed some details about the legal actions the US government is targeting SpaceX with. According to Musk, because they create rocket technology, they are held to laws set by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

He went on to state that one of those laws includes that SpaceX is not allowed to hire anybody that isn't a permanent U.S. resident. Despite following that rule, he is now facing a lawsuit by the government for discriminating against asylum seekers. Musk explained:

"Since we're [SpaceX] in the most extreme category of weapons technology, ITAR say it is illegal for us to hire anyone who's not a permanent resident...Then, there's another law that says if you discriminate against asylum seekers, you're also breaking the law.
"They [U.S. Government] then launched a giant lawsuit against SpaceX saying we discriminated against asylum seekers, but its illegal for us to hire anyone that isn't a permanent resident. Like, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. It's f*cked up man."
