"Everyone is so good" - Superlek ready to shake up the pecking order in the talent-laden bantamweight Muay Thai ranks
Flyweight superstar Superlek Kiatmoo9 says he's ready to shake up the bantamweight Muay Thai division with his presence when he defeats Jonathan Haggerty at ONE 168: Denver this week.
Superlek's mega-fight with Jonathan Haggerty looms closer every day as the countdown to September 6 begins. 'The Kicking Machine', for his part, has remained an unstoppable opponent for ten fights straight. He's demonstrated an insane ability to adapt to each new foe, literally breaking their spirits with sheer power and impeccable timing.
In all honesty, Superlek believes he will show the same rawness and speed as a bantamweight when he challenges Jonathan Haggerty for the 145-pound gold.
When his inexperience as a bantamweight came into question this week on SCMP MMA, Superlek clarified by saying:
"I don't think it plays a factor. I don't think moving up to bantamweight for the first time and having a title shot would be a problem for me. I understand that the whole bantamweight division consists of all the top fighters. Everyone is so good, and now I move up to [face them]."
You can watch Haggerty vs. Superlek live on September 6 via Prime Video. Tickets for ONE 168: Denver are available via Ticketmaster.
"We believe in ourselves" - Kickboxing kingpin Superlek Kiatmoo9 relishes being the underdog against Jonathan Haggerty
Like any reasonable athlete, Superlek understands better than anyone that he might be going into hostile territory on September 6.
This time around, Superlek is considered the extreme underdog against bantamweight Muay Thai king Jonathan Haggerty. Even though both combatants come from diverse backgrounds, they are evenly matched in many ways.
For one, they bully their foes with their aggression and technical prowesses. So there's a reason why they are considered the best pound-for-pound strikers in the world.
So Superlek will only count on himself to turn the tables on Haggerty and come out victorious as a two-division world champion.
On Instagram, Superlek made it a known fact with the caption that read:
"Even if no one believes in us, believe me, we believe in ourselves."
